Hey Troy! I’m currently building my first vivarium without leca balls using your method with filter foam at as my filter media. I’m very close to finishing and thinking about plants. Just wondering if I need to focus on certain types of plants or if you’ve had success with all types in this type of build. Do you use any substrate at all to kickstart your plants? Thanks!

Yo Troy, do you have any advice on a low growing moss/liverwort that I could culture and eventually move to wood? I’m talking like cork or something for orchid mounts. Light and humidity ain’t a problem, I just don’t know where to get this or what would do well.

One point though, it looks like you could lay down silicone beads straighter and easier holding something against the edge like this guy using a "finger condom". I have had three vivariums for about five years now and I have had spiders in them for the last nine months. I probably brought the spider eggs home from the pet store with my crickets. If that was not the way I brought them home… it really doesn’t matter…I just want to get rid of them. In my crested gecko, vivariums The spiders are black and the largest one I found (with its legs) was about the size of a dime. Not only are they making a mess with webs… they are eating my crickets, and also getting out and biting me at night because my vivariums are in my bedroom. I really don’t want to tear the vivariums down because I have spastic cerebral palsy and cannot do that without major back pain for weeks after. My brother caught small frogs in his pond and put them in my vivariums and it didn’t seem to help. I am desperate for a solution before I go nuts. Thank you for reading this and giving me a possible way to keep my sanity.

Loving all yours videos. Question, I start 6 month's ago and many people tell me to remove my moss, for all bacterial can create and is not good for dart frogs. Is that true?

This is an awesome video, but how in the world do you find your glass? Every custom glass place I look is selling one pane around the size of a Single front door panel for $60+, at that point its cheaper to just buy a customized terrarium that is pre-built by an outside company

Do you know the name of the mosses on the left branch and do you use riccia fluitans is it a good moss?

i had this issue with mine as well. fortunately, i found a solution by wrapping a garden liner around the intake to prevent clogging the nozzles. it works fantastic as it's fine enough for the water to flow through, while , at the same time, enough to keep all the fine debris out. works wonders for a year and a half now

I noticed you don't use soil or ABG but rather put moss and leaves directly on the sponge filter. Where do the isopods and springtails live? I though they needed soil to live, but maybe that's not always true?

Hey Troy, love all the videos - they’re essentially my bible for vivarium construction. Wanted to run a question by you; do you add isopods/springtails in the aquarium sponge substrate and if so what’s the success rate?

Would this system hold 2 18x18s side b side before another upright? I think I'd follow your advice and have 3 cross pieces if that makes a difference.

What do the people who raise tadpoles in cups do with the adults?

I have black spiders in my vivarium with crested geckos and frogs. I think probably the came in with the crickets, but I don’t know. I am wondering if you could help me because I have the substrate and the wood chips and the bark 2:26 and they are all infested with these black spiders. How do I get rid of them. Please help… I do not know what to do and I have not heard any Vlogs on how to get rid of spiders out of your vivarium. Thank you.

I received a plant and there were two tadpoles in the bag, one dead and one alive with half its tail cut off...I rescued it and put it in my vivarium, when I found it it was about 2cm, now after 3 months it is still a tadpole, but this with 6.5cm, is it normal to take that long? He has fully regenerated his tail and continues to grow, but only growing like a tadpole, no legs yet

I know the care itself would not be too difficult as ive done salt water tanks and reefs tanks in the past a bunch. But setting up the tank with spray foam and such that is permanent is what makes me nervous
